our vision

Gospel for Brazil exists to make Jesus famous among the inhabitants in the interior of northeast Brazil. In particular, we are focusing on a region in the state of Ceará centered on the village of Ubaúna.

Everything we do is driven by that call and that desire.

This region is known as the sertão. “Sertão” means “backcountry” or “backlands” in Portuguese. Because the sertão lies close to the equator, temperatures remain nearly uniform, and extremely hot, throughout the year. Distinctively low, erratic rainfall leads to periodic and catastrophic droughts. Covered with a scrubby, thorny vegetation adapted to the extreme climate, the land is quite inhospitable even without the heat and lack of rain. This variability causes extreme famines regularly that is devastating to the subsistence farmers in the region.

Vision 2High rates of illiteracy, subminimal wages, little work, unsanitary conditions and centuries of oppression make hope a precious commodity not found in abundance here.

Gospel for Brazil’s vision is to see the difference Jesus makes in impacting the lives of these lovely people. It is a simple focus on glorifying God and reaching the unchurched through an indigenous communication of the good news.
