Our Vision

Gospel for Brazil exists to make Jesus famous among the inhabitants in the interior of northeast Brazil. In particular, we are focusing on a region in the state of Ceará, centered on the village of Ubaúna.

Everything we do is driven by that call and desire.

This region is known as the sertão, which means “backcountry” in Portuguese. Because the sertão lies close to the equator, temperatures remain nearly uniform, and extremely hot, throughout the year. Distinctively low, erratic rainfall leads to catastrophic droughts. Covered with a scrubby, thorny vegetation, the land is quite inhospitable aside from the heat and lack of rain. Famine is a regular occurrence in this region.

A high illiteracy rate, subminimal wages, little work, unsanitary conditions and centuries of oppression make hope an elusive precious commodity.

Gospel for Brazil’s vision is to see the difference Jesus makes in impacting the lives of these lovely people. It is a simple focus on glorifying God and reaching the unchurched through an indigenous communication of the good news.
